Family photography is both a joy and a challenge. If you have ever been in a picture with babies or toddlers, you know what I mean. It can be hard to get them to look anywhere, let alone smile. However, this year as I have started shooting more family sessions, I have realized that I really enjoy capturing the family dynamics. Kids have such funny and unique personalities and I love trying to capture that in a picture. It can be a nice change of pace from the highly structured weddings to just hang out with a family and see what happens.

This Fall was a blur and this was one of my busiest Fall seasons yet, which has a lot to do with a new focus on family photography. I'll have a post to look back on family photos later, but for now I wanted to look back on all of the weddings and engagement shoots from 2016. I had an amazing time meeting the newly engaged couples and photographing their weddings. Here's just a taste of the past year. I cannot wait for what lays ahead in 2017!

John and Caitlin, both Ohio University alum, wanted an Athens enagagement shoot. We started uptown and hit up their favorite spots including the Athena Cinema and the Cats Eye Saloon, where they would catch up after a long day of classes. We then travelled to a field that is by Caitlin's parents house, which was a perfect spot for engagement pictures and the light was oh so right.

We started Devon and Alaine's engagement shoot by greeting the cows on Devon's family farm (they were very friendly). Then, we ventured around Devon's family farm which had plenty of great places for pictures. My favorite spot was in the broom sage. It may not make sense to farmers, but it sure looks pretty! It was great getting to know Devon and Alaine more and I'm looking forward to wedding in June!

The Carter's backyard photo shoot took place right in the heart of Fall with a backdrop of colorful leaves. Their girls are both adorable and they stayed in a good mood for the whole shoot (a rarity)! We finished the shoot with a "pizza party." There's no better way to end a wonderful evening.
